It’s been snowing where I live. ❄️ ❄️ ❄️
There’s ice on my windows and ice on the road. 🚒
It’s cold outside. It feels cold inside.
But this is the least of any worries hitting my mind this morning as I attempt to start my day..

At times it can be tough to recognize the many difficulties we face today in our nation – with growing distrust, discontent, continued physical and ideological segregation, media mayhem and political polarization with news nit-picking the narratives they want to promote.
We have more money passing hands and the truth remains that we’ve seen the largest wealth transfer for more people at the top of the food chain gaining more wealth and the people at the bottom having less to scrape by.
Moreover, we see increasing concerns for death and disease with children with a recent passing of a thirteen year old overdose on Fentanyl. Barely a teenager…. And equally a tragedy as many of the other lives lost each and everyday from self-harm, substance abuse, drug overdose every single day.
As you’ve heard me talk about in the past, the issues of drug use and substance exposure and abuse have nearly affected every single family in America and it seems to infiltrate younger and younger ages. A terrible tragedy indeed.
This week my heart has been heavy…. and maybe yours has too.
My heart goes out for a friend with a passing family member close to their heart whom they’ve nurtured for years.
My heart goes out for the families of the police officers shot, injured, and killed across the nation over the last week.
My heart goes out to all of the dozens of lives lost on the streets from street drugs, violence, and crime that never meet the headline news.
My heart goes out for all the kids suffering from mental and emotional pain and suffering during this growing epidemic for children’s mental health.
My heart goes out for the patients I see in hospital who know nothing of health in their lifestyle, who are just barely getting by and yet suffering with a mess of symptoms developed by a lifetime of poor lifestyle, poor education, and poor community involvement.
My heart goes out for all the single people living life today behind closed doors unable to mix and mingle with people their own age, being left to try to find some inkling of connection (if their internet connection is strong enough) with another living breathing human.
My heart grows tired from hearing about the disastrous states of anxiety faced by many of my friends who work as front line nurses facing unprecedented pressures from all sides of their work lives and careers, feeling without any sense of control or autonomy over their lives these days.
My heart was feeling incredibly weak as I found myself down a long rabbit hole researching the latest reports for state-by-state data on alcohol use, abuse, and binge drinking over the first year of the pandemic. Not to mention the many additional stories I’ve read from friends I knew in high school coming clean on social media about their long history with alcoholism and their endeavors for sobriety.
My heart grows heavy when I hear about several young women who were in my graduating class who’s lives have drastically changed over the last few years as they’ve trekked through the gauntlet of standard medical operations today for just so many issues such as thyroid cancer, Hashimoto’s, pulmonary embolisms, major post-partum depression, eating disorders and more.
At times I’ve wondered if I’m truly cut out for this – you know a life and career actively participating in the world of health and medicine.
When was the last time you laughed so hard you found yourself crying aloud?
My journey began early….
Early on with mother’s own personal health journey, bearing witness to her pain, her suffering, her firsthand struggles with several complicated health issues within a health system that simply doesn’t suffice for “healing” or “health” in any sense of the words at all. I grew weary and upset from watching unnecessary suffering, so I grew strong and emboldened for change with a fiery attitude of indignation and desire to change the status quo. But when you feel like you’ve lost any sense or ability to actually improve the world around you.. it has felt quite uneasy, exposed, and vulnerable as I’ve lost the fueling fire for the purpose for which I had believed I am here….
To strive to give people but a glimpse, at least just a taste of a happier, healthier life here in this life… just a bit better of a life to experience a life closer to the perfection of joy and beauty I believe we will come to face in the future…. to just simply give someone a bit of relief and shine a brighter light towards bringing heaven on earth for more folks while I have the chance..
Welp, I’ve felt quite stripped of my resources, as I continue to swim upstream and risk my sanity running against the wind, at times sprinting up a hill.
As you know, when someone close to you is suffering, the world shuts down and you jump into action to help take care of them. If you’ve been taking care of others in recent times, I want to thank you for your efforts. If you’ve been suffering - for any reason at all – I want to sit with you and encourage you, to hold your hand and maybe even crack some sort of punny joke to get you to crack a laugh.
After all, you know what they say… laughter is the best medicine. And it’s actually true, for many different reasons! I’ll share a few of those reasons below!
Firstly, laughter acts to relax all tension throughout all muscles, joints and connective tissues throughout the body. Any chiropractor will tell you that relieving tension itself can be a quick step to healing the whole body.
Secondly, laughter helps us let go of our emotions, especially if we have stored our emotions deep down, stifling their release due to fear or otherwise. We deserve to get that crap off our chest and out of our hearts. You deserve to let go of any pains of the past.
Next, laughter engages our core – you know those six pack abs that everyone has been working on this January?
The core is one of the most common weak points in someone’s structural health, and laughter helps us exercise those muscles and engage our core as we shout out bellowing laughter and cackles along the way. Furthermore, laughter forces us to exercise our lungs, vibrate our voice box, and activate some of the deeply sacred innate healing abilities we have inside of us when we learn to use our breath and lungs and specifically our voice to heal our minds and bodies.
Oh and laughter is as contagious as it gets as you know. :)
So pass it around as much as you can through honest human connection.
Boy do I hope you have the chance to engage with other people in REAL LIFE experiences, to see, feel, touch and resonate with other biological beings in your everyday life. As I’ve mentioned before, humans were designed to live life together, in close community, with deep trust and communal sharing of needs and resources, to serve and be served with love as that beautiful invisible force between us powering the way.
Man, do you know how awesome it is if you can humor yourself and laugh at yourself.
If the passing of our late, legendary Betty White can teach us anything… it may be to take life a little less seriously, take it lighter, and laugh our faces off – including laughing at ourselves.
My goals have always been the same – to give people greater access and opportunity to enlightened health and happiness as best as I can… children, teens, young adults, and even my striving elders too.
However, It’s heartbreaking for me to witness firsthand much of the brokenness we inevitably find in our lives as humans when I care
… just
… so
… freaking
… much.
Maybe you’ve been where I am now? Maybe you’ve questions the state of the world, the state of humanity and why at times it can feel like there’s just so much endless suffering surrounding us every single day.
What do you do?
Where do you go?
How do you heal?
Maybe you turn to laughter yourself.
You may turn on the comedy channel or an old classic rewind of one of your favorite old sitcoms. Maybe you don’t…? I’ll probably never know…
BUT, I do think that laughing with another human in person might be the most beautiful thing to help us heal on the inside and on the outside, despite our challenging times.
While depression may live in the dark and our lives are structured in a way that leads to feelings of explicit loneliness and social isolation despite the growing engagement in social media through sparkly screens online.
Humans are built for humanity and humanity does not live online my dear friends.
Humanity lives inside of us, within us and between us – in real life, on mother earth.
So no matter what you may be going through … I want to encourage you to take some time away from screens… yes including this newsletter when appropriate and explicitly prioritize some time with other lovely people in your actual, tangible, real life community.
And for God’s sake… may we fall back in love with giving hugs someday soon because Lord knows our kids, parents, and grandparents could all use a looooong hug for long-lasting healing that no pill could ever provide.
I love you beautiful people.
