But really, who are we to judge?
I wrote this last May originally, but as I begin my senior year I felt it appropriate to bring back into reflection for me as I walk through the rest of this last year, as I work to get better towards graduation…
But where do we go…?
How do we get there…?

We often ask ourselves, how do I get better…
How can I earn more money?
How can I use my time better..?
How can I spend better..?
How can I succeed more, or succeed better?
No longer are we calm and content… never satisfied we’re thirsty for more; we’re hoping to grow, to get better, and see that we have room to. Writing this post on the day of Ball State Graduation, I think all college students are trying to get better. That’s why we go to college right? We want a better education, a better life; we want a better job, a better salary, so we make ourselves better. We try to provide a better application, make ourselves more marketable, and better equip ourselves for our careers. We debate who has the better university, the better college reputation, and who has the better sports programs oftentimes.
Yet, we all share the same common denominator of just wanting to get better. I’m not saying we can all be the next Kanye West, “better, faster stronger..” (#AutoTune) but I definitely think there’s always room to grow, room to get better in our various roles in life.
Let me be real with you about my life,
I can be a better student.
I can be a better son.
I can be a better brother.
I can be a better future husband (Lord willing)
I can be a better friend.
I can be a better member of my community.
I can be a better citizen.
I can be a better follower of Jesus.
I can be a better educator.
I can be a better chef.
I can be a better writer.
I can be a better blogger.
I can be a better communicator.
I can be a better LEADER.
It is in the pursuit of many of these ambitions I have that I want to really put forth value into this world that has me currently writing this post, stepping into an unfamiliar territory, simply trying to make it… ZigZagging… simply trying to write, to speak, to grow, to communicate my dreams and aspirations to make a difference in this world. #ZigZag
And call me optimistic, but I think many of you are trying to get better too. I see students like Tanner Barton and Cruz Aleman who just graduated from Ball State University, having been highly recognized for their remarkable achievements. I see their incredible accomplishments, but you know what I see in them more…? I see primitive instincts..
These fine young men will change this world, they will do amazing things, they will inspire and motivate others just as much as what they have inspired and motivated me over the course of my collegiate career. Even though they just walked across that stage, they’re still not done. Oh no, they’re not even close.
You can see it in their eyes..
You can see it in their hearts…
They’re just getting started. This is just the beginning.
They’re still getting better. They’re still striving for new goals.
This is what defines us as aspiring millennials in my opinion.
Some may box us in and classify us as ‘so and so’ and ‘such and such…’ but when I see students like Cruz and Tanner… I’m humbled and I’m inspired.
And you know what…?
They make me want to get better.
And I promise you, I will.
And you will to, I promise.
Tell me how you plan to get better by commenting, sharing, liking this post and participating in this conversation. #GetBetter
