What do PRISONERS and KINDERGARTNERS have in COMMON?
I’ll let you know at the end of this week’s newsletter. Any guesses?
A Fast Answer to a Q about Fasting ⏰
How much, how little, is it different if _______?
I wanted to answer a quick question I’ve been getting a lot lately about fasting….
Men: Less sensitivities, more resilience and stability, can usually handle a longer fasting baseline to start off with around 14-16hr fast as an approachable baseline to start if they want to experiment for themselves
Women: More hormonal variance, suggest more flexibility, freedom, intuition and considering a 12-14hr fast as a good max time as a starting place if they want to experiment
Both groups should consider promoting healthy foods during eating, significantly nutrient dense foods, lots of great veggies, colorful foods, healthy fats, and high-quality protein.
Both should consider an “eating window” that is best aligned with the rise of the sun, such as a common suggestion to help human biology better align for sleep, digestion, insulin sensitivity, brain function, immune function, and more with a properly aligned timed lifestyle paired with the sun. Yay sun ☀️ he’s my fav!
Both should be explored in ample time to reflect and learn more about one’s biology, metabolism, nutrition routine, and psychology of eating.
One should always feel free and open to adapt, adjust, and speak openly about one’s particular individual plan. If stress, pressure, hiding, or restriction of self or restriction of feeding start to begin… then you know you’ve started to cross a line into some unhealthier eating habits.
🟥 Red Flag. 🟥
Take Time to Reset and Relax. 🧯
STRONGLY encourage anyone and everyone wanting to try anything long term or with particular goals in mind to use the support of a nutrition professional.
If someone has a history of disordered eating, orthorexia, or struggle with emotional eating or generalized anxiety around eating, I strongly recommend not exploring this on your own and reaching out to a certified intuitive eating / mindful eating professional.
Just thought I’d touch base about this since I’ve had so many people talk to me about it recently. Okay, so now let’s talk about talking..
I HATE THE WAY I TALK
I HATE HEARING MYSELF TALK
I HATE HEARING THE SOUND OF MY OWN VOICE
Most people would be quick to admit they hate the way their voice sounds.
WHY?
Our voice is a gift.
That’s right – YOUR voice is a GIFT
YOU are a GIFT
Yup. Accept it!
No gives backs.
No returns, sorry.
No gift exchanges either.
Nope. Yours is yours and only yours to have.
Your voice is a result of the powerful instrument of speaking.
Voice lessons, speaking gigs, practice, and public speaking presentations, stand-up comedy.. all of these can help us better appreciate our voice by learning how to play our instrument a little bit better.
But REAL TALK for a minute… do you hate your voice?
Be mindful of your thoughts and feelings, the words you use to think and feel about yourself..
Be mindful of your beliefs about yourself… the inner words, perception, and esteem you hold of yourself plays a pivotal role in how you behave and believe about this world at large
If you don’t like yourself, you won’t believe when others want to like you and show you that they like you
If you don’t love yourself, you won’t let others love you (just like we’ve talked about before)
If you don’t like the way your voice sounds, you’ll likely restrict that beautiful art and power you have to use your voice to heal wounds, to heal hearts and empower souls
Here’s this week’s dash, sprinkle, bit of a dabble to help you grow! 😁
This week take notice of those inner beliefs and feelings about yourself, from the smallest detail to the big picture view.. WHY do you not like your voice for instance? WHEN did this start? HOW will you overcome this false sense of imposter syndrome or poor self-esteem?
SPEAK LIFE to yourself, with self-love, joy, positivity and daily affirmations for safety, security, compassion, grace, and self-love to yourself… do it for yourself so you can do it to others.
🏅 We Need You ✌️
All people, including children and prisoners alike deserve healthy, delicious, sustainable food to nourish their body, brain, and spirit, allowing them the chance to live their happiest healthiest life possible for the rest of their life.
Don’t you agree?
The behaviors of both prisoners and kindergarteners can both be highly influenced by the food they eat, their level of adequate nutrition in the meals that they consume and the food they are served.
Anyone else ever had a sugar rush that left them feeling a little on edge, anxious, or irritable?
How about being short, mean, and frustrated with the world when you’re hangry?
I bet you can think of someone you know very well (probably even yourself) who fits these descriptions.
Yes, it might sound a little crazy… But the food that we eat has a strong impact in the way that we feel and the way that we behave not to mention the way we think in the way that we process and respond to stress.
Psychology Today has written on this in the past, as well as many pieces of scientific literature suggest the evidence.
So tell me why no change has been made in government care or policy?
When a single multivitamin nutrient would cost pennies to provide … and who knows what restorative justice and transformative change could be seen if prisoners were actually fed healthy whole foods to nourish their body, brain, and biology!
At this point, the world knows the facts. The people high up in their thrones of authority and decision making must know, right?
“Crime and nourishment – the link between food and offending behaviour.”
So tell me why prisoners are neglected, overlooked, and left to fend for themselves without anyone else to give them a voice or speak up on their behalf?
Likewise, as we’ve looked at in weeks past, why are children often overlooked and neglected with respect to their nutrition and the clear impacts on their mental health and behavior?
Will it take us getting to Mars before we wake up and smell the roses in our own backyards?
WHY CAN’T WE ACKNOWLEDGE THE TRUTH AND TAKE ACTION?!
Why are people (children in kindergarten and breathing human beings labeled as prisoners) suffering without any chance of hope?
They can’t feed themselves. We don’t let them. They can’t speak up for themselves. We don’t let them. We don’t teach them the tools they need to nourish themselves.
We don’t seem to care.
WHY? When? How?
When is a life too valuable NOT to speak up and advocate on their behalf?
When is a life deemed so worthless to be neglected by all of society and be dismissed for a life of brutal disposition inside what should be a naturally healing, therapeutic biological ability granted by the creator?
Yes – the body can heal itself.
Yes – people, both children and adults act better when properly nourished.
Yes – we are far too late to tackle this issue, but we can still speak up in our local communities. Yes – you can meet with your local district, educate yourself on these issues, join the school board, phone someone in decision making at your local level. Heck, you can even simply share this post with a friend you think would benefit from some heartfelt concern for kids and someone’s brother/sister, mother/father, son or daughter currently spending time in jail or prison.
This topic has already got me too heated and too emotional to keep on so I’m ending this week short. Sometimes, the facts feel so real, so harsh, and hit home with me so deeply.. I’m just left petrified
