Money Money Money, Mindset and Movement
How do you like to plan for your financial future, cash, card, or credit?
Happy December Friends!
This week I’m sharing some additional areas of our health and happiness, some common struggles with mindset and perspective as well as some interesting insights about growth and business in today’s current age where everyone wants to be famous and to grow an influencer-like following. Where do you stand in all of this I wonder? Are you interested in growing a personal brand and business or just focused on making enough money to pay the bills at your current day job?

I have a tendency to really push people into freedom and passive income revenue streams whenever I see their extraordinary potential that they perceive as ordinary. For instance, I’m currently helping a pilot who flies for fun, one weekend or another to develop his mid-life passion project to promote model airplane kits to kids at home. This business will look a lot like the old “model of the month” clubs that he was a model recipient of as a child.
His story is rooted in his grandmother’s desire to see her grandson receive a model kit in the mail each month. My friend would light up with excitement and amazement with each new package and experiment that came in the mail. In no time, he began to understand physics, mechanics, aerodynamics and construction by building these model kits and having a whole lot of fun doing it!
I’m excited to help him take his dream into a reality with a side hustle I do from time to time, helping people ideate and develop their own worthy side hustle opportunities. Whether it’s a passion project or a legitimate income generating endeavor, I’ve always found the conversations to brainstorm very beneficial for myself as well as whoever I’m working with.
Health and Happiness is definitely tied to the dollars that we make and the capacity to feel free from the grind of work, the dystopian dystrophy of feeling like we never have a chance to do what we want. While I don’t think money can buy happiness, money can sure provide some leverage in our lives to help us make a bigger impact, improve our lives and the lives of those around us.
Mind
Ray Edwards is a pretty proficient copywriter and business coach that I have followed for a few years now. In a recent episode of his podcast, he shared the top 5 attitudes (or mindset traits) of successful entrepreneurs. I’ll highlight two of them here:
Progress over Perfection
Maybe you’ve heard this one before, but I still think it is always good to remember to maintain a perspective of progress over perfection. Perfection gets us nowhere because we will never be or do anything perfectly. We can, however, continue to get better and better along the journey that is life.
(hence ZigZagNutrition – navigating nutrition in life in all areas of health and wellness, etc. etc.)
Perfection cripples us, shames us, condemns us when we don’t live up to our lofty expectations. Furthermore, we can easily present that same perspective and critique of perfection onto other people in our lives, casting shame, judgement, and worse without even noticing it. There is some truth to the thought that how we treat ourselves will impact how we treat others. So, give yourself a little wiggle room next time you’re striving for any goal big or small; take pride in the process of progress rather than become paralyzed by perfection.
For vs. To
Am I writing this newsletter for you or to you? Are you forced to work to make an income or is your job or career providing you an opportunity for income, for a life of safety and security, food and shelter. Are you reading this foryourself or to appease me? How do you believe you interact in the world, are things done to you or for you?
This is huge my friends so don’t sleep on this conscious consideration. How we perceive our reality easily infiltrates how we receive our reality what we believe about our lives. (and just to be clear, I’m writing this for you) Currently, I’m sitting at a Panera Bread, typing away near the fireplace at my local café, imagining you – the reader – sitting across from me at the table. This is a labor of love for me, to provide content leadership for you.
Don’t be the victim, be the victor.
When we perceive this world as things done to us rather than for us, we often take the perspective of the victim. Where’s your locus of control?
I believe every obstacle can be an opportunity. Do you believe that the events of your life have been done against you without any chance that it was for good, that it will turn out to be a good thing in the future, or that you have learned from those events?
Perhaps you know someone with the doom and gloom, fixated victim mentality. Maybe you know someone like this, who is always complaining about the harsh realities of the world they face... every situation in their life presents itself as an obstacle they didn’t ask for rather than an opportunity they didn’t expect to have. Who knows what the future will hold?
If we can gradually shape our perspective to be one that calls upon hope and positivity, with what I call unrealistic optimism then we can continue through whatever life throws our way and walk through it gracefully with more health and more happiness in my opinion.
No one likes a grumbling old grump. It’s time to take the high road and allow ourselves to receive the blessings of things done for us rather than to us.
Money
Let’s talk side hustles for a moment. Do you have one yourself? Would you like to have a passive income project that you are passionate about? You’re not alone, especially in time of coronavirus more and more people are realizing the value of having multiple revenue streams coming in. As an old country financial proverb goes, “we don’t want to place all of our eggs in one basket.” Most people talk about having a diverse portfolio with their investments in the stock market, but there is even greater value to be had by diversifying your money-making potential.
THIS IS A TOPIC I LOVE TO TALK ABOUT.

In a world of change and a great deal of unexpected unknowns for the events of tomorrow, it can feel stressful, worrisome, and downright scary to think about losing everything all at once. That’s why I care so much about the diversified portfolio concept. Depending on the changing times, we can lean one way or another, duck and dodge as we need to and stay balanced with financial freedom and safety and security. You could breathe easy knowing you and your family are okay. Isn’t that a breath of fresh air itself?
When it comes to making smart decisions with our money, there are hundreds of things we could discuss. In a recent episode of Side Hustle Show hosted by Nick Loper, he goes over 10 of unconventional money rules. A couple I really liked are, “entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone” and “personal finance is very personal.” I couldn’t agree more to be honest with you.
We all grow up in specifically unique family dynamics around money. What our parents and guardians, mentors and teachers lead us to believe could have occurred implicitly (e.g. purchasing new cars vs used cars, owning a home vs. renting) and explicitly (“Every penny counts!”).
Our personal money mindset is fascinating to consider as single individuals, and when we come together and make a family of our own, possibly get married or get involved in a relationship, the meshing of different money mindsets can cause a big problem. For some reason, money seems to always be a touchy subject for couples and families.
Often attributed as the #1 conflict for families and couples, I really don’t believe money should be all that big of a deal, but it just needs to be explored and designed as a cohesive and transparent collaboration – a compromise, but also a win-win for everyone.
Feel free to use this outline to discover insights for your own money mindsets. Share with a friend or family member and also your partner or spouse to discuss some of your answers together and learn more about one another’s money mindset. Now, you can get a better cents (get it?!) of yourself and your closest confidants. Let us know what you discover in our online community.

Money
A profitable business model:
100 people pay you 100 dollars a year – just a year. 12 months of your service or even just one-off transactions dispersed throughout the calendar months.
100 people x 100 dollars = $10,000 / year
This is your first business. This is your first project you start from the ground up. You develop the systems and support to understand how it can be done and be done well. Once you grow competent in this single business model, you move on to the next big idea you have.
Again, 100 people pay you 100 dollars for your goods or services, your wisdom or expertise.
100ppl x $100 = $10,000/yr. Yes, it is that simple.
Who wouldn’t want a little extra pocket change from time to time? Who wouldn’t want to expedite their loan repayment plan? Who wouldn’t want to get out of debt in five years instead of 35? Maybe you would like a little extra cash to invest in your children’s education of the future or to take a much-needed family vacation?
What impact could you make in your life and the lives of those around you with an extra $10,000 a year? Something to think about perhaps! Movement
Relax, don’t stress too much if you’re not ready for a side hustle project right now. I get it, all of us are insanely busy living life with a daily dozen checklists and crazy amounts of information overload already. One way that I have to take care of my mental fitness and overall health is to engage in daily movement.
Lately, I’ve been loving my foam roller, which I use at least twice a day in the morning after I wake up and in the evening before I go to bed. This has really helped me to massage my muscles and relax the joints I’ve stressed throughout the day, not to mention the help it has made for my shoulders and back after sitting for long hours.
Some people swear by their foam rollers, and if you’re interested in trying one out then here’s a link for you check one out if you want to try a foam rolling routine in your daily practice too.
Have a wonderful week as always, enjoy the sunshine when you can and keep moving!
